Futura roll out AMT's Flightman solution
Dateline: 12 December 2002
Futura and Aircraft Management Technologies today announced plans for the full roll out of AMT’s proprietary Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) solution Flightman™ across Futura's fleet.Using Flightman™ - an electronic solution for the secure, wireless management of aircraft technical and operations data using XML technology and portable computing devices - will lead to improved operational efficiencies for the airline, greatly improved cockpit safety procedures and substantial cost savings of over US$100,000 per aircraft annually.
Futura have chosen to implement two of the Flightman™ modules;
· Electronic Logbook module including fuel management
· Performance, Weight and Balance module
For the Futura pilots during the initial test phase of Flightman™ one of the most visible benefits included cost reductions in the area of Technical Stopovers. Through the deployment of Flightman™ the pilots saw that performance calculations could be carried out more accurately and only minutes before take off. This results in Futura avoiding an estimated two thirds of all technical stopovers thus leading to significant cost savings. Commenting on the test results Francisco Rodero, Ground Operations Post Holder, said:
“Flightman™ proved to be very user friendly and demonstrated real efficiencies for Futura in reducing the amount of labour intensive and often incomplete or inaccurate paperwork and calculations.”
Since its foundation in 2000, AMT, the award winning, Dublin based provider of innovative aircraft operations and maintenance management solutions, has continued to expand its operations in the international aviation industry and boasts an impressive customer portfolio of charter, commercial and cargo airlines, including Atlas Air, DHL and Futura International Airways.
Futura offers charter flights for the most important tour operators in Europe, especially in the markets of Ireland, United Kingdom, Spain, Scandinavia, Italy, France and Belgium. Futura recently announced the purchase of the company by a management team lead by CEO, Roman Pané. Following the signing of the deal Mr. Pané commented that;
“In a hotly contested market, Flightman™ gave us the ability to cut costs and measure costs more accurately while improving service quality and reducing the workload on our staff, thus presenting a very rare opportunity.”
Through its synchronised modules Flightman™ is the complete solution for electronic data capture and management in the field of flight operations and maintenance, covering business processes, technical documentation, fuel and vendor management, onboard sales, weight and balance and performance calculations and flight plates. In short, Flightman™ allows pilots, cabin crew and ground engineers to capture and utilise operational information more efficiently, thereby eliminating the inefficiencies of paper logs.
Flightman™ strengthens an airline’s capacity to satisfy regulatory requirements and improve flight safety and security processes and is fully scalable and extensible to allow for development and implementation of future requirements.
The product roll out with Futura has, in turn, generated a large amount of interest from other Spanish and European airlines. On final acceptance, Bernard Hensey, Chief Executive of AMT said:
“In the current international climate it is imperative that airlines cut costs without compromising passenger safety. We are delighted to enter this complete roll-out phase with Futura and we believe that the full implementation of Flightman™ presents the airline with a real opportunity to benefit from substantial cost savings and operational improvements.”
