Delta Partners expands its Life Sciences team
Dateline: 4 August 2004
Delta Partners today announced that Dr Joey Mason has joined its Life Sciences team. Dr Mason brings 15 years’ experience in the health care industry as a financier, corporate development director and entrepreneur. He will focus on building Delta Partners’ life sciences portfolio. Past and current investments include Advanced Surgical Concepts, Biotrin, Pharmagene, Neoss, AGI Therapeutics and NeuroCure. Dr Mason joins a well-established team of highly experienced partners in one of Ireland’s largest venture capital funds.
Having trained as a medical doctor at Trinity College, Dublin, Dr Mason worked for 5 years in London with Morgan Stanley International and Technomark Consulting as a corporate financier, specialising in health care transactions. On his return to Ireland, he was Corporate Development Director at Biotrin plc, a venture capital-backed diagnostics company. During this time, he was a founder member of the Irish BioIndustry Association. In early 2000, he co-founded and was Managing Director of Eumom Ltd, a medically endorsed internet business that created websites for pregnant women in Ireland, Germany, the UK and Switzerland.
“We are delighted to welcome Joey into the Delta team. Life sciences companies are becoming an increasingly large part of our portfolio, with 3 investments in the past 9 months and we felt it was critical to expand our skill in this area,” comments Frank Kenny, Managing Partner at Delta Partners.
“Ireland is benefiting from increasing entrepreneurship in the Life Sciences sector. This is due to the growing size and maturity of the medical devices and pharmaceutical industries in Ireland and the significant funding of basic medical research by Science Foundation Ireland, Enterprise Ireland and other programmes.
Delta Partners expects to build its portfolio of Life Sciences companies in the coming years to complement its IT and Communications sectors. Delta’s investment style over 20 years has been consistent, focusing on early stage seed and start up businesses with sizeable growth potential and combining investment, financing and consulting expertise.
Delta Partners is an Irish venture capital firm established in 1994. With over €125 million under management, the team has made over 50 investments in the following sectors: Communications, Internet, Software and Life Sciences.
